TagAssign

In your kit, there are five NFC tags to test and demo the TagAssign feature. One of the tags is set up with your user details and includes a label with your name. Two of the NFC tags are set up as fictional employees within the G8 Demo org. The remaining two tags are unpaired and can be used within your personal org for your own testing purposes.

Paired versus Assigned:

Paired: This term refers to the act of setting up an NFC tag with user details. The tag itself, once paired to a single user, only interacts with an unassigned G8 device to assign it to the user details on the tag.

There is no limit to the number of NFC tags that can be paired to a single user. Once the tag is paired to a user, it is added to the user's organization and can be viewed on the TagAssign page in Blackline Live. The Blackline Live Administrator can unpair a tag but cannot remove it from an organization and move it to a different organization.

Assigned: This term applies to the status of the G8 device. When a G8 is assigned, it is attached to a specific team member's details. Activities, alerts, etc. on the device are tracked under that team member in Blackline Live.

  1. Locate the NFC tag that has a label with your name on it.
  2. From the G8 Status screen, press the left or right button to scroll through the Feature screens until the TagAssign screen displays.
  3. Tap the NFC tag next to the G8 screen.
G8 initiates the assignment process and displays a number of screens before it displays the TagAssign screen with a status of Assigned. The user details display in the upper-left part of the screen and are communicated to Blackline Live.

  4. Try to follow the same steps using one of the pre-labeled NFC tags.
Because G8 is already assigned to a user, a different NFC tag will not scan until G8 is unassigned.
  5. To unassign G8, from the TagAssign screen, press the center button to select the Unassign option.
Note: The Unassign option only displays when the device configuration is set up to allow device users to unassign themselves. If this feature is not enabled, users must be unassigned from their G8 device through Blackline Live.
  6. Using one of the pre-labeled NFC tags, try re-assigning G8 to the fictional employee.
  7. Notice the changes that occur on G8.
You can also assign and unassign yourself to and from G8 through the TagAssign menu. From the Main menu, select TagAssign. The TagAssign menu displays either the Assign device or Unassign device option based on the current assigned status of the G8 device.
