Environmental Considerations

The LEL-IR sensor has a built-in filtration system to minimize the impact of dust and debris. However, moving the sensor from a warm environment, such as an office or vehicle, to a cold operating area may cause moisture to condense inside the sensor.

Under these conditions, if the device shows fluctuations in the zero gas value, the sensor should be left on and in the area of use. This allows air movement to remove excess condensation from the sensor's optical path.

During this time, the sensor may not accurately report target gas concentrations. Actual drying times may vary with environmental conditions, but 2–5 minutes is the recommended waiting period. Once the zero gas value is stable, the device is ready for use.

In some cases, this drying time may not be sufficient. If so, the device should be returned to a room-temperature environment to dry out. After drying out, Blackline Safety recommends performing a bump test to ensure the sensor is operating as expected.
