Planning Location Beacon Placement

Some things to consider when selecting Location Beacon installation locations:

  • Smaller rooms (up to 400 square feet) normally require one beacon. Larger rooms are often segmented into quadrants with four beacons.

  • For offices or spaces with divided walls, locate beacons in a central location (like a hallway) or one room.

  • Divide large spaces with obstructions into quadrants to allow for adequate coverage.

  • Ensure the height of Location Beacons is as high as practical, with minimal obstructions interfering with the signal.

  • Install Location Beacons upright.

Important:

Before installing Location Beacons, review your Location Beacon placement. For each location, consider how long it could take for a responder to locate an employee within proximity of the beacon. If the time is longer than 30 seconds, consider dividing the area into two or more zones with one beacon in each.

Additional placement considerations include:

  • Placing Location Beacons near circulation pinch points like doorways, catwalks, or gates.

  • Keeping Location Beacons away from obstructions made of metal or concrete as they reduce signals more than wooden structures.

  • Placing beacons in elevators, but not on moving vehicles or objects.

  • Mounting Location Beacons on walls, corners, pillars or beams.
