Using TagAssign to Assign and Unassign G8

An overview about assigning and unassigning a G8 user to a G8 device.

Before a user can assign themselves to a G8 device, the following must be true:
  • The G8 device must be initially assigned to the user by the Blackline Live administrator in Blackline Live. See Assigning a Device to a Team Member for more details.

  • The TagAssign feature must be enabled in Blackline Live. See Editing a Configuration Profile for more details.

  • The user must have an NFC tag paired to themselves. The tag can be paired by the Blackline Live administrator or by the user through the G8 TagAssign menu.

  • The G8 device must not be already assigned to another G8 user. The G8 device must be unassigned, and then the new user can tag themselves.

Before a user can unassign themselves from a G8 device, the Allow team members to manually unassign themselves from the device setting must be enabled in Blackline Live. See Editing a Configuration Profile for more details.

Pairing versus Assigning

Pairing: This term refers to the act of setting up an NFC tag with user details. The tag itself, once paired to a single user, only interacts with an unassigned G8 device to assign it to the user details on the tag.

There is no limit to the number of NFC tags that can be paired to a single user. Once the tag is paired to a user, it is added to the user's organization and can be viewed on the TagAssign page in Blackline Live. A Blackline Live Administrator can unpair a tag but cannot remove it from an organization and move it to a different organization.

Assigned: This term applies to the status of the G8 device. When a G8 is assigned, it is attached to a specific team member's details. Activities, alerts, etc. on the device are tracked under that team member in Blackline Live.
