Changing the Speaker Membrane

G8's speaker membrane may accumulate dust and debris, affecting the clarity of incoming audio. Blackline Safety recommends changing the speaker membrane to ensure G8 remains in good working condition.

To change the G8's speaker membrane, you need the following:

  • Spudger pry tool

  • Replacement speaker membrane

  • Replacement speaker grille

  • Small vacuum or Q-tip with isopropyl alcohol

Note: The speaker membrane replacement kit (ACC-G8-MSFK-XXX) also contains a mic membrane replacement kit. It is recommended to change the speaker membrane and mic membrane at the same time. For details, see Changing the Mic Membrane.
CAUTION: G8 must be powered off for this procedure. Otherwise, the device may send out false alerts.
  1. Power off G8. For instructions, see Powering Off G8.
  2. Pull down the red latch to expose the speaker grille.G8 with pulled red latch.
  3. Place the flat end of the Spudger pry tool beneath the speaker grille, then lift the grille to remove it.Spudger pry tool lifting up speaker grille.
  4. Use the tool to remove the existing speaker membrane.G8 with exposed speaker slot and the speaker grille at the side.
    Note: The speaker membrane may be attached to the speaker grille and come off when you remove the grille.
  5. Inspect the speaker slot for dust, dirt, or debris. If dirty, use a small vacuum or q-tip with isopropyl alcohol to clean the slot.
  6. Get a new speaker membrane from the replacement kit.
  7. Place the new membrane into the designated slot. Ensure the black side of the membrane is facing outward.Inserting new speaker membrane into G8.
  8. Get a new speaker grille from the replacement kit.New G8 speaker grille.
  9. Insert the new grille into the designated slot under the G8's middle button. New G8 speaker grille inserted into the device
    Note: The top of the speaker grille has ridges and should be inserted first.
  10. Press down at the bottom of the grille until you feel it engage.Pressing on the G8 speaker grille.
  11. Close the red latch.
  12. Power on G8 to continue using the device. For instructions, refer to Powering on G8.
